Using fake rain could make dull races more exciting: F1 chief

London, Mar 2 (ANI): Formula One supreme Bernie Ecclestone has suggested that using artificial rain could make dull races a more exciting spectacle and increase overtaking opportunities.

“Look at the races we have now. Overtaking is almost impossible because in the dry there is only one line good for maximum speed due to the rubber on the track. You have a completely different picture when it is wet. We always had the most exciting races in the wet, so let’s think of making rain,” the Daily Mail quoted him, as saying.

“There are race tracks you can make artificially wet and it would be easy to have such systems at a number of tracks. Why not let it ‘rain’ in the middle of a race for 20 minutes, or the last 10 laps? Maybe with a two-minute warning ahead of it. Suspense would be guaranteed,” he added.

With drivers and teams already expressing concerns about the introduction of crowd-pleasing devices, the prospect of fake rain showers will do little to dampen talk about excessive manipulation of grands prix. (ANI)
