USAC Driver Shane Hmiel In Hospital After Crash

hmiel_crop_ A sad news for the fans of Shane Hmiel as the racer has been critically injured on Saturday night during a qualifying race at the Terre Haute Action Track. USAC officials confirmed that the car of Shane Hmiel flipped and the roll cage bounced off the wall during the accident. Some of the onlookers have also said that Shane Hmiel appeared to be unresponsive at the scene and had to be airlifted to the hospital immediately. Some of the sources close to the racer have also revealed that Shane Hmiel has sustained some serious head injuries and is in induced coma. He had to admitted to the ICU immediately after the crash and the USAC has said that more information on the racer will be given out later.

USAC President and CEO Kevin Miller said that USAC is very concerned about Shane Hmiel at the moment and offered their resources and sympathies to the family at this moment of distress. Shane Hmiel is presently admitted at the Indianapolis Methodist Hospital and the medical staff have also confirmed that his condition is quite critical.

Shane Hmiel has been in and out of the news as he made a strong comeback to USAC last year and won the ‘Most Improved Driver’ Award. He started his career in NASCAR and went to make 117 starts in three touring divisions. He was later suspended for life after he failed three drug tests. Since his ban in 2005, Shane Hmiel has been working on rebuilding his career in racing and has been quite successful in the USAC.
