U.S. judoka expelled from Olympics for cannabis
August 6th, 2012 - 9:03 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Aug 6 (IANS/RIA Novosti) American judoka Nicholas Delpopolo has been disqualified from the London Olympics after testing positive for cannabis, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said Monday.
Delpopolo, 23, failed a July 30 doping test that he took immediately after competition, where he finished seventh in the 73kg category, the IOC said.
He is one of the five athletes announced by the IOC to have been caught doping during the Games so far.
The others are Moroccan 1,500 meters runner Amine Laalou, Russian cyclist Victoria Baranova; Uzbek gymnast Luiza Galiulina; and Albanian weightlifter Hysen Pulaku.
St. Kitts and Nevis last week sent home sprinter Tameka Williams for taking a substance that they feared “would fall outside the accepted medical code”.
