Kevin Wildemond, a 23-year-old player on the first league’s Ovarense team, collapsed Sunday during a tournament in the central Portugese city of Pousos.
Wildemond suffered a heart attack and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, local media reports said.
The game between Ovarense and Academica de Coimbra for third place in the tournament was broken off at halftime with a score of 40-32. The final was also cancelled after the death.
The 1.85-metre-tall Wildemond had been with the team just since September.
