Karachi, April 10(ANI): US-based tennis coach Jalil Riaz will arrive in Pakistan in June to train the team for the Davis Cup scheduled to be held in July, Pakistan Tennis Federation President Syed Kaleem Imam has said.
“The PTF has requested the coach to train the players before their next assignment in South Korea, slated to be held from July 8 to 10,” the Dawn quoted Imam, as saying.
He pointed out that things were getting better day by day since he took over as PTF president on November 26 last year.
“Pakistan’s 3-2 success against Hong Kong China in Davis Cup rubber, participation in the Fed Cup after a decade, staging of ITF Level I officiating course in Islamabad and reviving dormant units, speaks about the efforts put in by my team in a short span of time,” he said.
Talking about the raise in remuneration of Davis Cup players, Imam said: “The PTF has substantially raised the Davis Cup purse of Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan. The former was paid 3,000 dollars as against previous amount of 2,000 dollars, while the latter was given 2,000 dollars as against 1,000 dollars.
“In addition, Aisam and Aqeel were paid 50,000 rupees apiece announced by the federal sports minister for winning the Davis Cup tie last month, while the remaining amount of 50,000 rupees was distributed among the two players and the non-playing captain.”
Imam also said the federation would provide financial assistance of 50,000 rupees to Pakistan’s four provincial associations apiece for holding an annual national junior ranking tournament.”
“The federation would extend full support to all players including ladies, who were willing to travel abroad for participation in international events,” he added. (ANI)
