Urban MeyerDec. 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The coach of the Florida Gators has announced that he would be stepping down from his post. He is scheduled to make a formal announcement in a press conference that will be held on Sunday. At the press conference, he is expected to make the announcement and also cite the reasons for his resignation. Earlier, it was being speculated that the press conference will be held on Jan 1, 2010, the day when the Sugar Bowl match is scheduled to take place against Cincinnati.

Although there are speculations that the Florida Gators coach would not be holding the press conference on the scheduled date, it is unlikely that something like this would happen, unless something unprecedented comes up. It is, indeed, fitting that the Florida Gators coach has chosen the day of the Sugar Bowl match for the public announcement of his retirement. After all, that is the last match of his career that he would be coaching, at least for the time being.

Earlier, Urban Meyer had commented that it is very hard indeed for him to make the decision of quitting football altogether. However, given his condition, with stress aggravating the cyst on his brain, there is hardly any other option for the Florida Gators coach, whose prodigal skills have led the team to many a victory. He had also been named the “Coach of the Decade” by the Sports Illustrated and the Sporting News. Thus, to those who are not yet aware of the news, it is likely to come as no less than a shock when he makes the public declaration of his resignation.
