sanantonioNov 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) More than thousand participants at the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon faced a delay of close to 4 minutes due to the passing of a train on the course. The delay did not, however, disrupt the flow of the race as the runners where compensated for the time loss.

Representative of the organizers of the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio marathon, Tracy Sundlun, explained that an unscheduled freight train which passed the course of more than one thousand runners was the main cause of the delay. She also added that the situation was taken in control quickly by the marathon officials. She explained that the disruption did not affect the outcome or participants of the elite event as the time was adjusted accordingly. The delay of about 4 minutes occurred at the start of the marathon around 7:27am. The race officials quickly took action with the help of the law enforcement officers and emergency service. They held the runners, addressed the matter and also delayed the next staring wave of runners to adjust the time loss of the ones affected by the passing train.

The winner among the men was Edward Tabut who finished the marathon in 2:17:04. Paul Ngeny finished second and Keith Pierce became the second-runner up. Among the women, it was Everlyne Lagat who finished with the unofficial time of 2:42:43. Two locals (Elizabeth Malesich and Emily Loeffler) became runners up. Reports indicate that none of the runners complained about the delay at the start of the race. The organizers themselves claimed that in spite of the delay the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio marathon went smoothly.
