Unfair to fine me and let Dixit go scot free: Warne

New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne Thursday termed as “unfair” the Indian Premier League’s decision fine him $50,000 and let Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) secretary Sanjay Dixit go scot free.
The IPL disciplinary procedure commission, comprising its chairman Chirayu Amin and former India captain Ravi Shastri, found Warne guilty of breaching the IPL playing contract after hearing him and Dixit, who had alleged that the legendary spinner had publicly abused him over the Jaipur pitch controversy.
“Unfair that I get fined while Sanjay Dixit gets away with saying whatever he feels like,” Warne told NDTV.
“My fight with Dixit was immature on both our parts,” he added.
Warne said he is not saddened by the happenings.
“I got fined for telling the truth. The incident was silly, petty and a bit immature. I won’t let this spoil my IPL and the experience I’ve had,” Warne told another news channel CNN-IBN.
Warne, 41, had heated exchanges with Dixit in front of the television cameras over switching the pitch for Royals’ home games in Jaipur as the new track did not assist the spinners.
Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi came out in Warne’s support, saying the IPL should have let him off accepting the Australian star’s apology.
“BCCI money-minded heads targeting a legend like Warne is uncalled for. They are indirectly attacking all your close friends. Shame on them,” Modi tweeted.
“USD 50000 fine for Warne while Dixit is free to punch away on twitter! unbelievable! not a word from the BCCI on Dixit mocking Tendulkar,” he said.
“BCCI ought to have been magnanimous and left the legend accepting the apology. A fine should only be commensurate with the damage done,” Modi added.
The spat with the RCA secretary notwithstanding, Warne is keen on continuing with the Royals in future with positive memories from the IPL.
Warne, who will be playing his last IPL match against Mumbai Indians Friday, said it is only fitting Sachin Tendulkar will be at the other end.
“It’s appropriate that my last game is versus Sachin. He is the greatest player I have played against,” he added.
