Islamabad, Jan.15 (ANI): Despite demands from various quarters about his sacking, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt is unlikely to face any stiff action as President Asif Ali Zardari, who is the patron of the PCB, is in no mood to dismiss either Butt or the current PCB set-up.

Senior government officials have disclosed that Zardari is unlikely to take action against the PCB management, which has come under fire for the national teams disastrous performance during the Australian series, particularly in the second Test match in Sydney.

“The Sydney debacle was mainly an outcome of ‘player power’ and due to the flaws in the cricketing structure,” officials said on conditions of anonymity.

Zardari’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar’s statement after the Sydney debacle was itself an indication that Butt would escape the flak.

“Winning and losing are all part of the game. The loss was disheartening and calls for greater effort in the future to win crucial fixtures,” Babar had said.

An official, who is privy to the issue, said Butt enjoys a far better image than his predecessors, because of which he may not be sacked soon.

“Ijaz Butt’s credibility is far better than his predecessors. He is not a part of any financial irregularity like the previous three chairmen, as pointed out in the four-year audit report conducted by the Auditor General of Pakistan,” The Dawn quoted the official, as saying. (ANI)
