Turkey sack Hiddink after Euro 2012 failure
November 16th, 2011 - 9:51 pm ICT by IANSIstanbul, Nov 16 (IANS) The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced Wednesday that Dutch coach Guss Hiddink’s contract had been terminated by mutual agreement following the team’s failure to qualify for Euro 2012.
“The contract of Hiddink has been invalidated after a mutual agreement between the federation and the coach,” said TFF on its website.
Turkey, who finished second behind Germany in Group A of the qualifying stage, drew 0-0 with Croatia in the return leg of the play-off Tuesday and lost 0-3 on aggregate, quashing all chances of qualifying for Euro 2012.
Hiddink, who led Russia to the semi-finals during the Euro 2008, took over the post in January 2010 on a two-year contract.
