The Pittsburgh Steelers have taken to the field in the second half of the NFL opener against the Tennessee Titans without their prominent safety Troy Polamalu, who injured himself in the left knee in the first half of the game.

Mike Tomlin, the coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, told the media that the doctors have diagnosed a “MCL sprain” in Polamalu’s knee.

This incident happened when Alge Crumpler of the Tennessee Titans fell on his left knee with full force, in the first half while the later was in midst of a trademark maneuver.

According to coach Mike Tomlin, Polamalu will have to stay out of the game atleast for 3 to 6 weeks due to this unfortunate injury, only after which he could think of returning back to the fields.

Its a big setback for the Steelers as Polamalu has been one of their most prominent soldiers on the field and has made very important contributions in the first half of the game through his trademark powerful game and interceptions. In 2007 also Polamalu had to deal with serious knee and rib injuries.

Polamalu, who has taken to the fields for the Steelers, for consecutive five times in the Pro-Bowl, is a crucial part of their arsenal and his absence in the second half significantly affected the Steeler’s performance; it was clearly evident to the experts and general fans alike.

Tyrone Carter, who chipped in for Polamalu’s absence in the second half, was cut out for a big task at hand as expectations from him would be huge.
