Trott partied with Proteas players after their UK series win: Vaughan
October 29th, 2009 - 1:33 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Oct. 29 (ANI): Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan has said that the team’s latest batting star Jonathan Trott partied with the South African players after they had won the Test series in England last year.
Vaughan, 34, said: “It was a sad day for English cricket but, on my last day against South Africa, I saw Jonathan Trott celebrating with South Africa when, the week before, he had been our 12th man. I saw him patting them on the back. It hit home what English cricket’s become like.”
The revelation comes days before Trott leaves with the England team for this winter’s tour of South Africa.
According to The Sun, Vaughan’s comments will put more pressure on Trott, who hit a ton on his Test debut in The Ashes at The Oval in August.
Trott is sure to run a gauntlet of abuse in the country of his birth, as Kevin Pietersen has in the past.
England depart on Sunday for the tour during which they play two Twenty20s, five one-dayers and four Tests.
Trott, 28, was born in Cape Town and played for South Africa in the Under-15 and Under-19 World Cups. But he held a British passport and, when he made his Warwickshire debut in 2003, was able to play as a non-overseas player.
Trott talks with a strong South African accent and his assertiveness on the field has upset a few people. But few doubt his ability and his debut century was a superb mixture of calmness and skill.
Vaughan added: “I suppose you might wish that Trott was a bit more English but, after such a brilliant debut, it appeared we had found another high-quality batsman.”
Vaughan was writing in his autobiography Time to Declare, which is published today. (ANI)
