Trott over the moon with dream knock at hallowed Lord’s
May 28th, 2010 - 4:09 pm ICT by ANILondon, May 28(ANI): England batsman Jonathan Trott insists that his unbeaten century against Bangladesh in the first Test at Lord’s was like a dream come true, and believes that the innings would prove that the selectors were right to stick with him.
Trott scored a dominating 175 off 357 balls on the opening day to put England in a commanding position of 362 for four at stumps.
“It was a great feeling and to play at Lord’s and get a good score was like a dream. I am chuffed to be not out and have the chance to go again in the morning,” The Sun quoted Trott, as saying.
During the innings the 29-year-old compiled dominant century partnerships with skipper Andrew Strauss and debutant Eoin Morgan, and he hopes that it will help him put a difficult winter season firmly behind him.
“I was disappointed with the way I finished the South Africa tour, despite getting some decent scores, and touring in Bangladesh was frustrating at times, but I had to remain composed and go out with a positive intent, which I did. Now I must go on and get a big one,” Trott said.
Trott further accepted that he had put himself under unnecessary pressure last winter, but is delighted that he can shelve those memories after the perfect start to the new season. “Every time you don’t get runs when you put on the England helmet, it’s disappointing. Perhaps I was over-keen at times, especially after such a good start to my England career in The Ashes last summer,” Trott said.
“I have worked hard though at Warwickshire and everything seemed to click into gear,” he added. (ANI)
