Agartala, Aug 29 (IANS) Tripura Wednesday announced government jobs for all sportspersons who have won medals in national and international events.

Tripura Finance Minister Badal Choudhury said: “The council of ministers in its meeting has decided to provide government jobs to medallists in national and international meets. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar chaired the meeting.”

“To recognise their success, the government will appoint those sportspersons under the sports and other departments,” the minister told reporters.

So far, gymnasts Dipa Karmakar and Sengupta Banashree have been offered jobs as junior physical instructors under the state’s sports department.

Earlier on a number of occasions, the Tripura government had provided government jobs, mostly in education and home (police) departments, to over 100 sportspersons who were successful in various sports meets.

To educate people about the physical, mental, and spiritual discipline, the Left Front government has decided to create a post of state Yoga Coordinator under the sports department.

“The Yoga Coordinator would systematise among various clubs, NGOs and other groups and individuals about popularising the practice of Yoga in Tripura,” Choudhury added.
