Bangalore, Oct 12 (IANS) Somerset’s entry into the Super Eight stage suffered a setback after a 44-run defeat to Trinidad and Tobago in the Champions League Twenty20 cricket at the M.Chinnaswamy stadium here Monday.
Somerset, who registered a thrilling last ball win over Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Deccan Chargers in their first match, were bowled out for 106 while chasing 150 for nine by Trinidad and Tobago, which decided to bat.

Dwayne Bravo then took four wickets before wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin top-scored with run-a-ball 39 to steady the Caribbean team’s ship.

Somerset’s hopes now rest on Trinidad and Tobago beating Deccan Chargers in the final Group A game.

Trinidad and Tobago were off to a flier with openers Lendl Simmons (22) and William Perkins (20) going on the offensive from the start. The two came heavily on Ben Phillips in his first over but he returned to renove Simmons.

Charl Willoughby (3-35) then took the wickets of Perkins, Darren Bravo and Kieron Pollard to leave the West Indians at 60 for four at the end of the powerplay.

But Ramdin, dropped on 11 by Peter Trego, held the lower-order together.

In reply, Somerset lost Marcus Trescothick and Craig Kieswetter early to Bravo. The off-spinner Sherwin Ganga then dismissed skipper Justin Langer off the last ball of the powerplay. Somerset managed just 28 for three from the first six overs before their middle order crumbled.
