Trinidad and Tobago fancy semi-final chances
October 3rd, 2011 - 1:01 am ICT by IANSChennai, Oct 2 (IANS) With a sensational win against the Chennai Super Kings in their bag, Trinidad and Tobago believe they still have an outside chance of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Nokia Champions League T20 tournament, according to their skipper Daren Ganga.
Following the 12-run win against the Super Kings here on Sunday, Trinidad and Tobago notched their first win in three matches, two of which they had lost narrowly, and Ganga hoped that they will ride the momentum and beat the Nashua Cape Cobras in their last game on Tuesday.
“It is always good to get a win and tough luck for Super Kings. We had lost two close matches earlier and now, the probability of us getting into the semi-finals is there provided we beat Cobras. That is all we can do,” said Ganga.
His counterpart Mahendra Singh Dhoni, while congratulating his opponents, said that the runs they conceded at the death cost them the game.
“We were looking to chase around 110, but they scored another 10-12 runs which helped them to win. As the ball got old, it became difficult as it became muddy.
“We should go into our last game (against the New South Wales Blues) to win. It is good that we will be playing last (on Tuesday) and so we will know the scenario,” said Dhoni.
Man of the Match Sunil Narine who took three for eight in four overs, two of which he bowled in the power-play period, said he merely bowled in the right areas.
“I bowled in the right areas and I just did my best. We needed to take wickets at regular intervals and which we did. I thought everyone bowled well today and I hope we carry this forward into our next game against the Cobras,” said Narine.
