London, Mar 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 15-year-old footballer collapsed and died later after he was accidentally kneed during a football match. Huw Thatcher was trying to win a ball with a sliding tackle when the accident happened on Sunday.

Huw’s father, Nick, who was at the park where the match was taking place witnessed the whole incident and tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate his son. When Huw was rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead. Doctors say he died of brain aneurysm following the accident.

Nigel Meredith, manager of the Brighouse, explained what happened. He said that, “Our player got there first but their player(Huw) was coming in with a sliding tackle, our lad had to jump out of the way to dodge the player sliding in and as he jumped over him he caught his head with his knee.”

Huw was playing for Hepworth United against Brighouse Town Juniors when the incident happened. Huw is the captain of his school team. Nick later told reporters that he does not hold anything against the player his son had the accident with.

Another 15-year-old footballer also died under bizarre circumstances on Saturday during a football match. The player, Reece Jeffrey, just collapsed and died during a football match. The two incidents have triggered concerns about the safety of young footballers in the United Kingdom.

Police are investigating the two incidents.
