Trevor Hohns also willing to replace Hilditch
August 20th, 2011 - 4:51 pm ICT by IANSMelbourne, Aug 20 (IANS) Trevor Hohns, Australia’s most successful chairman of selectors, is willing to replace part-time chairman of National Selection Panel (NSP) Andrew Hilditch, who was sacked by Cricket Australia (CA).
The 57-year-old Hohns, who was replaced by Hilditch, made himself available to lead the national selectors. Honhs relinquished his post in 2006 but made a comeback earlier this month as Queensland’s chairman of selectors.
“I am available. I’ve only recently been appointed to the Queensland job (as chairman of selectors). So I do have the time and the energy. I’m certainly interested, there’s no doubt about it,” Hohns was quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph.
Under Hohns, Australia dominated world cricket for a decade. During a decade-long tenure as a chairman, the former leg-spinner was in charge of Australia’s record-breaking 16 consecutive Test wins and the 1999 and 2003 World Cups.
Hohns was never afraid of taking tough decisions. He sacked Mark Waugh and stripped Steve Waugh of the ODI.
Hohns, however, declined to comment on what went wrong with Australian cricket since his retirement in 2006.
“We’re going through a period where we’re not as strong,” he said.
