Tremlett plans to bounce out India at Lord’s
July 20th, 2011 - 7:52 pm ICT by IANSLondon, July 20 (IANS) England fast bowler Chris Tremlett hopes his towering presence would intimidate the Indian batsmen and wants to be patient while bowling against them in the four-match Test series starting Thursday at Lord’s.
Tremlett, who made his Test debut in 2007 against Indian, has been tipped to be the most potent bowler against the visitors. The giant quick, nicknamed Hightower, feels that the bouncy Lord’s pitch will allow him to zero in on the ribs - or the stumps - and not much else in between.
“I think everyone knows the subcontinent teams can be susceptible to short-pitched bowling. My general plan is to bang out an area with the occasional bouncer,” Tremlett was quoted as saying by The Mirror.
“I guess that is the aggressive side to fast bowling. The Rose Bowl (against Sri Lanka) was a satisfying wicket to bowl on, getting guys jumping around. I think I’ve improved as a bowler, I’m naturally more aggressive and more consistent, bowling quicker more often,” he said.
Tremlett said that he has matured as a bowler since making his debut in 2007.
“I’ve learnt a lot since 2007. Back then I was still raw and still learning, but now I’m more confident and at ease. I still don’t think I’m over the top, I just have a natural presence that hopefully intimidates batsmen.
“Sachin is a great player and like a lot of their players they play very attritional cricket and are patient players and it has been pretty boring, so you’ve got to be patient.”
Tremlett also had words of praise for India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
“In MS Dhoni they’ve got possibly the most charismatic player they’ve ever had. He leads from the front, he’s a very dangerous cricketer, and if we can get at anyone I think he’s probably the key man,” he said.
