Toure’s drug ban expected to be similar to rugby player Duckworth’s verdict

London, Mar 8(ANI): Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has been given a hint of his possible punishment for failing a drugs test after York City Knights rugby league player Matty Duckworth ended up with a six-month ban for inadvertently breaching sporting drug laws.

Duckworth was originally given a two-year ban after testing positive for the stimulant Methylhexaneamine (MHA), which was in a supplement he thought was legal.

However, the 21-year-old has successfully argued on appeal that he made efforts to find out whether the supplement was legal, and that he was not in any way looking to enhance his performance, the Sun reports.

His ban, which was served from September 1 last year to March 1, was cut to six months.

Earlier on March 3, it was revealed that Toure had failed a drug test and had been suspended by City.

The club said that he had been suspended “pending the outcome of the legal process”.

The World Anti-Doping Agency will impose a punishment on the 29-year-old, with the worst possible case being a two-year ban from football. (ANI)
