serguei-ivanov-of-russia-001Finally the 14th stage of this year’s Tour de France has put a new name on the top of the standings although the leaders were still right on course. The stage 14 of the competition was won by the Russian, Serguei Ivanov, who delivered with a superb individual attack following a 12 man break.

The Tour de France stage 14 was however centered around George Hincapie, who entered the stage in 28′th place. The talk of the day was whether Hincapie could take over the overall lead that has been set up by Rinaldo Nocentini or not. At the end of the stage Rinaldo Nocentini maintained his lead, now leading George Hincapie by mere five seconds. Contador dropped to third position though he still remained six seconds back whereas Lance Armstrong ended in the fourth position with eight seconds back.

The stage 14 results was some sort of a mild shake up for Nocentini as every one expects him finally to succumb at stage 15. The two experienced cyclists namely Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador will possibly take control on the Alps. As the Alps are on the horizon, the showdown between the two most experienced cyclists i.e. Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador are on the cards.

Somehow the stage 14 of Tour de France 2009 was marred by some bizarre incidents that occurred.

In one incident, a woman was hit by a motor cycle, which was involved in the race, as she was crossing the road near the town of Wittelsheim. Reports say that the woman had died instantly after the accident. Two more people were injured when they were hit by a motorcycle.

On another occasion that happened yesterday, two cyclists were reportedly shot by two teenagers with a gun, thus hurting them briefly.
