Fernando Torres London, May 29 (ANI): Fernando Torres has landed a big pay rise with a 30 million pound deal which will keep him at Liverpool for another five years.

Torres, 25, was already contracted until 2013 after signing a six-year agreement when he arrived from Atletico Madrid in 2007.

Yet the Reds were keen to reward him for two great seasons and have handed him fresh terms for the same period, plus a further 12-month option, The Sun reports.

And that will see his wages soar from 90,000 pound a week to more than 110,000 pounds, almost six million pounds a year.

It also sees him follow the likes of Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Agger in agreeing to new long-term deals.

Kop boss Rafa Benitez said: “Fernando is one of the best strikers in the game today and, at his age, can only get better. Every major side would want him. But he has shown how much he wants to achieve success at Liverpool by committing his future to the club.

“We are building something special and securing such important players on long-term deals means we can move forward with confidence. It sends out a very positive message to everyone.”

Torres has been a terrace idol from the moment he joined in a 21 million pound move. He hit his 50th goal for the Reds in only 83 games during the last-day win over Spurs. (ANI)
