Top names for Masters golf in Digboi
October 20th, 2009 - 10:31 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Kolkata, Oct 21 (IANS) A fascinating contest is in the offing as some of the top names of Indian professional golf will tee it up for honours in the Indian Oil Xtra Premium Masters tournament at the Digboi Golf Links course in Digboi, Assam, from Thursday.
The Pro-Am is scheduled for Wednesday with the tournament offering a total prize purse of Rs. 20 lakh.
The field includes Mukesh Kumar, Shamim Khan, Rahul Ganapathy, Harendra Gupta, Vijay Kumar and Feroz Ali Mollah, to name a few.
The picturesque Digboi Golf Links is a golfer’s delight. The course is one of its kind in terms of ambience as it is situated among the lush tea estates and thick forest of eastern Assam.
The Links is bordered by the Dehing forest reserve on three sides and the magnificent mountains of Arunachal Pradesh on the fourth. This 72-par course with a yardage of 6329 could also be termed as the best in the north-eastern part of the country due to its magnificent layout.
Subrato Ghosh, executive director of IOCL (Assam Oil Divison), said: “We look forward to hosting the top professionals of the country during the Indian Oil Xtra Premium Masters. The course at the Digboi Golf Links is in great condition and we are sure that the tournament will be a treat for golfers and the golf fans of Assam as well as the North-East.”
