June 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) What could have been a dramatic press conference, turned out to be a rather heart warming one for the Spartan fans when Tom Izzo announced that he will stay on as coach of the Spartan team.
Though he talked about his other option of coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers, he said that he never wanted to leave the team. He also added that his son thought that it would be great to play one-on-one with Lebron James but he knew that this was a life changing decision.
The conference that took place on Tuesday night saw Tom Izzo being introduced by Mark Hollis for the Michigan State University. The conference was called by Lou Anna K. Simon, the president of the MSU to announce the staying back of Tom Izzo.
The speech by the athletic director Mark Hollis was followed by Tom Izzo’s justification for staying put as the coach. He said that when he got the offer he knew it was a very important offer of his life and so he spoke to his wife and family. He jokingly passed the blame to his son who was more inclined for his own interests. He also said that the MSU has a family atmosphere that makes people come back to it again and again.
Tom Izzo has a 364-146 record with the Spartan and it spoke for him when he was offered a $30 million contract by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was also looking at the opportunity to coach arguably best player in the world.
Tom Izzo however denied that LeBron James’ move had nothing to do with his decision.
