Mar 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) After a three season losing streak, the coach of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes has been fired. Todd Lickliter, who is 54 years old, had four years left on his seven year contract as coach of the Hawkeyes. The contract paid him 1.2 million dollars a year. The athletic director, Gary Barta announced that Lickliter will be paid approximately 2.4 million dollars for the rest of the contract. The team was 10-22 this season.

Lickliter had just released a statement on the 11th of March which said that he was not sure about his future as coach of the team. He said that after losing to Michigan 59-52, that he was not sure whether or not he would return for his 4th season. Lickliter has a 38-58 record for the three seasons he has spent coaching the Hawkeyes. “I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Lickliter said. “People have to make those decisions, but we’ve invested, players have gotten better and this team is better than the first two teams that won more games. & You’re asking me to answer on speculation. I haven’t been told I’m not [head coach], so until I’m not I’m not, I am.” Well it seems that as of yesterday, he is no longer the coach. He was reportedly not available for comment.
