Stanford, Nov 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Toby Gerhart was the hero of the match amongst Stanford and Notre Dame. He was here and he was also there and he was simply amazing on the field. Without a doubt the Stanford running back had the whole stadium watching his power play. It was an amazing night for the outfielder as he helped establish the 7-point victory over the Notre Dame side with score 45-38 at the last minute.
Toby Gerhart was instrumental in keeping the Cardinals united throughout the game. On the whole the Stanford team was losing but the #7 jersey player kept them fully intact. Toby Gerhart also piled up 26 touchdowns overcoming the previous record of LenDale and Corey Dillon of 24.
It was the regular-season finale for Stanford, which will go to its first bowl game after 8 long years. For Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis, it might have been his final game with the Irish (6-6).
“I think Toby has said it all by the way he played,” coach Jim Harbaugh said of his senior back, who set a regular-season Pac-10 record with 26 rushing touchdowns.
“We looked each other in the eye and said, ‘Man up,’ ” cornerback Richard Sherman said. “We knew No. 7 (Gerhart) would take us to the promised land.”
