Tiny Barath aims to stand tall against Australia
November 26th, 2009 - 3:18 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Brisbane, Nov 26 (ANI): After consistent success at the domestic level earning him a spot in the West Indies team, opening batsman Adrian Barath has said that he is confident of doing well in the international stage as well.
The 19-year-old Barath, who is one of the tiniest cricketers to represent the national team, can expect to hear a few balls whistling past his ears when he makes his Test debut against Australia in seaming and climbing conditions at the Gabba.
“I’m confident, I have worked hard and I’m prepared. I performed well in the Champions League in India for Trinidad and Tobago and I’m looking to continue,” The Age quoted Barath, as saying.
“All I want is the opportunity to get out there and show what I am made of. I am a player who can adapt to foreign conditions. I will play it as I see it,” he added.
Meanwhile, West Indies skipper Chris Gayle said that Barath is a really short player, but he will make up for his shortcomings with talent and toughness.
“It’s going to be the first time I’ll open the batting with Barath. He’s been around in first-class cricket and he’s certainly got a few hundreds underneath his belt. He’s a pretty decent player,” Gayle said.
“We’re not looking to expect too much from Barath at this point in time, but at the same time we will look to give the team a good start. He is a confident player and I am sure he will go out there and enjoy his cricket, and put his best foot forward, and get some runs under his belt,” he added. (ANI)
