Kozhikode, June 18 (IANS) Promising young athlete Tintu Luka will take part in the World Junior Athletic Championship in Poland from July 9. Tintu, a protege of sprint queen P.T. Usha, won silver in the 800 meter (2 minutes 08.63 seconds) at the Asian Junior Athletics Championship, in Jakarata on Sunday.
The class 12th student is training at the Usha School at Koyilandy since its inception six years ago and nurtures a dream of winning a gold in the 2012 Olympics.
“She could not achieve her best timing in Jakarta otherwise she could have won the gold,” Usha said.
“Her best time is 2 minutes 05.21 seconds. At present she has the fifth best timing in the world in 800 meters in the junior category,” Usha said.
Usha said Tintu will practice in the Infosys campus in Mysore where they have synthetic track. Usha said her centre does not have a synthetic track as it could cost around Rs 50 million.
“Infosys has invited us to use the synthetic track facilities at their Mysore campus to prepare for the world championship. Tintu is capable of running faster and can achieve a timing of 2 minutes 04 seconds.”
