July 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The crowd at the Rancho Mirage were treated to a battle of quick punches and quicker intelligence as Timothy Bradley took on the so far undefeated Argentinian Luis Carlos Abregu. The WBO welterweight champion was greeted by the crowd’s chants of ‘Desert Storm’ as he entered the ring. In spite of being the favorite to win, Timothy Bradley had a fight that could have swung in any direction till the last minute. The Welterweight champion, however, managed to win the 12 round battle with a unanimous decision from the three judges. The scorecard read 118-110, 116-112, 117-111.
In the first few minutes of the game, Timothy Bradley received a hard punch from the Argentine that saw a cut open over his right eye. As he bled profusely, he replied to Luis Carlos Abregu in the second round with a unblocked punch that left the later reeling for the rest of the round. By the fourth round the fight became more even as both the players continued the exchange of the punches. In spite of Luis Carlos Abregu dominating slightly in the middle rounds, one of the blows from Timothy Bradley saw him suffer a cut above his eye. A clash of the head in the 7th round also saw Luis Carlos Abregu being completely shaken. The fighters exchanged punches till the last minute of the 12th round.
After the fight Timothy Bradley said that he was an old school fighter and he would fight anybody. He also added that the punches of Luis Carlos Abregu were harder than he is used to in the 140 category. Luis Carlos Abregu on the other hand thought the decision of the judges was not fair and he was expecting a draw.
