New York, Jan 17 (ANI): Golf ace Tiger Woods will be speaking at the opening celebration for Barack Obama’’s presidential inauguration.
The 33-year-old golfer is the latest star to be included in the line-up for the “We Are One” ceremony to be held on January 18.
The ceremony also boasts performances and readings by Beyonce, Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Denzel Washington and Martin Luther King III, among others.
“I am honored that I was invited to this historic event, and look forward to participating in Sunday’’s festivities,” The New York Daily News quoted Woods as saying in a statement posted Friday on his official Web site, tigerwoods.com.
In an interview with CNBC last November, Woods, who rarely comments on political matters, seemed to be quite excited over Obama’’s election.
“I think it’’s absolutely incredible. He represents America. He’’s multiracial. I was hoping it would happen in my lifetime. My father was hoping it would happen in his lifetime, but he didn”t get to see it. I”m lucky enough to have seen a person of color in the White House, said Woods at the time.
“We Are One” will be held at the Lincoln Memorial and will be aired live on HBO at 2:30 p.m. EST. (ANI)
