Dec. 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tiger Woods is serving as a model to Robert Joe Halderman’s attorney, Gerald Shargel. Robert Halderman is the one who had blackmailed David Letterman, the celebrity talk show host, to pay him huge sums of money. Allegedly, Robert Halderman had threatened that he would divulge the fact that David Letterman carried out sexual trysts with his colleagues, unless he agreed to pay him the money. Now, the defendant’s attorney has cited the case of the philandering golfer in defense, drawing attention to the fact that even Tiger Woods had allegedly paid hush money to his lovers.
It had been confessed by David Letterman, in a stunning announcement, that he had indeed been having extramarital affairs with his female colleagues. In the same breath, he also mentioned that he was being threatened by someone, something that led to the case lodged against Robert Halderman. Apparently, Robert Halderman had been asking the television show host to dish out the princely sum of $2 millions in exchange for his silence.
Gerald Shargel insisted in his report that since the women who had extorted money from their celebrity lover in order to keep their affairs a secret had not been punished, meting out a different judgment in the case of the television producer would be more than unfair. He further commented that such matters are not few and far between, and that celebrity scandals do fetch a high value in the market. However, he added, it is better to settle such matters on a personal basis. Of course, the argument seems lame, making it sound as if a crime does not remain so, if its commonly committed.
