Three Indian boxers win silver medals in Russian meet

New Delhi, July 12 (IANS) Three Indian boxers settled for silver medals in the Magomed Salam Umakhanov Memorial boxing championship at Makhachkala, Russia.
All the three finalists Amandeep Singh (48kg), Akshay Kumar (57kg) and Manpreet Singh (91kg) lost their final bouts Saturday.
Amandeep lost to Olympian Danielyn Oganes of Armenia by a narrow margin of 3-5 points.
Akshay went down to Polynsky Dmitry of Russia 1-4 while Manpreet was declared medically unfit after he sustained a cut in the nose during his hard fought semifinal bout against Khomaster Artur of Germany.
Meanwhile the Indian women’s boxing team participating in the International Women’s boxing Tournament at St. Petersburg, will return with a bronze medal.
Sangita Devi (81 kg) lost her semifinal bout to M. Yavorskaya of Russia to settle for a bronze medal.
Kalpana Choudhary (48kg), Chhoto Loura (51), Sushma Kumari (54) and Laxmi Padhya (75) all crashed out in the preliminary rounds.
