Three held for betting on World Cup matches
March 8th, 2011 - 10:39 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 8 (IANS) Three men were arrested in west Delhi for running a betting racket, police said Tuesday. They were dealing in bets involving around Rs.3 crore on World Cup matches.
Naveen, 29, Vijay Kumar, 34, and Amit Mittal, 28, used to operate from a rented room situated near Braham Puri Colony at Ranhola village at Nangloi.
The arrest was made after police received information that they took bets for the England-South Africa and India-Ireland matches.
A software, Back ‘N’ Lay Pro, was used for calculating profit and losses by them, police said.
“The rates used to fluctuate with the fall of wickets and the runs scored. In a 50 overs match, there are five sessions of 10 overs each and betting is done separately on each session,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand said.
“They had received bets from the punters to the tune of Rs.2.79 crore,” he added.
One laptop, seven mobile phones, one TV, two notebooks, one data card, two calculators and a set-top box have been seized from them.
