This Indian team can beat any side, says BCCI president
January 19th, 2012 - 9:30 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS) Indian cricket board president N.Srinivsan backed the beleaguered team, saying the players selected for the Australia tour were the best in the country and have the potential to beat any side in the world.
With India losing all the three Test matches of the tour so far, Srinivasan said he was surprised with the team’s poor show and had expected the boys to do well in Australia.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) singled out the Melbourne Test where he thought India played really well but were unlucky to lose the match.
The loss in the third Test in Perth was India’s seventh successive overseas defeat, the team having suffered a 0-4 whitewash in England last year.
“Even now, this team is good enough to beat anybody. This is the best team we have. We definitely felt they would do well in Australia, and I think even if you take the first test, there were moments when I think we were on top, and for some reason or the other the Aussies got away,” Srinivasan was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Srinivasan defended the team, saying it was sheer bad luck. He asked the fans to be patient and sdaid that no team could win all the time.
“I think one cannot really run them down. So little bit of luck rub of the green as they say, and I think results would be different. We cannot win every match, series all the time, so one has to allow for that. I am not defending the performance of the Indian team. I would wait and see,” he said.
