There are no doubts over Indian Grand prix in 2011, says Ecclestone
September 3rd, 2009 - 5:28 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Sep 3 (ANI): Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has insisted that the Indian Grand prix will go ahead as per the planned schedule of 2011, and said that the race in Greater Noida will happen.Ecclestone was reacting to Indian Sports Ministry’s decision to reject a request by race promoters JPSK Sports to remit 22.5 million pounds in foreign currency to Ecclestone’s British-based Formula One Administration (FOA).”There was never any doubt. The contract was signed ages ago,” The Mirror quoted Ecclestone, as saying.Formula One has been facing trouble in India following Indian Sports Minister MS Gill’s remarks that F1 was more of a source of entertainment for the rich and famous while his ministry’s focus was on development of other sports.”This is the most expensive entertainment event in the West. The technology used for the same is far beyond anything here. We are focused in promoting other sports. Rest, this is a free country, what they want to do is their business, we are nowhere concerned with that,” Gill had said.It is believed that Gill’s comment would have a significant influence on whether or not-to bring F1 to India. However, according to reports, JPSK Sports has already acquired land for construction of a F1 track in Greater Noida and have started building the track.
