The two balls that led to Tremlett’s Ashes heroics
January 29th, 2011 - 5:18 pm ICT by ANIBrisbane, Jan 29(ANI): England fast bowler Chris Tremlett has revealed that his career was transformed after bowling coach David Saker saw him bowl a couple of balls during a practice session last year.
Tremlett said that his international career was stalling until he was invited to join England’s practice before the Test against Pakistan at The Oval in August.
“They were thinking about the Ashes and my height and bounce. Sakes saw a couple of balls and said, ‘6ft 8in, he can bowl 85mph or 90mph, he’s got to be on the plane’,” the Sun quoted Tremlett, as saying.
“It’s great he rated me. He’s been a key part of the Ashes success,” he added.
The 29-year-old was seen as a surprise choice when the Test team to tour Australia was named.
However, he took his chance after Stuart Broad’s injury, taking 17 wickets in the last three Tests of England’s stunning 3-1 Ashes victory. (ANI)
