Hawaii, Dec.08, (THAINDIAN NEWS) All the participants as well as the spectators at the Eddie Aikau Invitational surf competition are keeping their fingers crossed so that the much anticipated surfing competition can take place on Tuesday. The surfing event is unique in itself as a specific wave condition is a prerequisite for the contest to take place. As a result, the event has been held only seven times since its inception in the year 1985. However, this year the event is all the more special as it marks the 25th anniversary of the gala surfing event.
George Downing, the contest director who has been monitoring the weather conditions for the past few days, has emphasized that chances are high that the event might be held on Tuesday. However, preparations at the Waimea Bay [where the event is held] are going on for the past few days with the surfers and the spectators eagerly awaiting for the wave conditions to be perfect so that the event can eventually take place. Moreover, the large number of surfing enthusiasts that had gathered on Monday hoping that the contest would take place, were left disappointed as the wave conditions did not turn out to be as predicted.
With weather predictions claiming that the ocean swell is expected to build early and the wave height could reach something around 30 feet, the surfers and the spectators are desperately hoping that the weather conditions ultimately becomes accurate for the contest.
The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau surfing competition is attended by skilled surfers from across the world and is held every year in the memory of illustrious surfer and lifeguard Eddie Aikau.
