Dec 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It seems that the Texas Rangers just cannot afford to lose their starter Cliff Lee to the New York Yankees. This is why Chuck Greenberg, owner of the Texas Rangers flew for Arkansas on Thursday to make lucrative offers to the 32 year old pitcher. It is being speculated that Cliff lee has been offered with various offers. This is surely one last desperate attempt on the part of the Texas Rangers to stop Cliif Lee from joining hands with the New York Yankees.
Although nothing is finalized as to which team will Cliff Lee be finally joining in 2011, but according to sources both the teams have offered him a handsome deal in terms of both money and time. A source says that the Texas Rangers are hell bent to make Cliff Lee stay in their team so that they can reach the World series at any cost. An insider revealed that Chuck Greenberg along with assistant general manager Thad Levine and co-chairman Ray Davis met the pitcher, his wife and agent Darek Braunecker for a discussion on the deal. The meeting supposedly took place at Darek Braunecker’ office. Following this incident, the New York Yankees on the same day itself has added an extra year to their offer to include Cliff Lee in their team. Earlier on Wednesday they had offered him a six year deal and promised him $137.5 million to $140 million.
The final result is being eagerly awaited. News on the front has it that Cliff Lee will announce his final decision this weekend. On being questioned about the meeting Chuck Greenberg refused to say much as nothing is complete. He only said that the extension in the offer has been made and that he felt good over the entire meeting.
