Terry’s dad gets suspended six-month prison term
June 2nd, 2010 - 3:12 pm ICT by ANILondon, Jun 2 (ANI): Former England skipper John Terry’s dad has been given a suspended six-month prison term for selling cocaine to an undercover reporter.
Edward Terry admitted supplying 3.5 grams of the class-A drug to a News of the World journalist, who was posing as a chauffeur in November 2009.
Basildon Crown Court Judge Christopher Mitchell said: “It is a very, very clear case of entrapment solely to create a newspaper story.”
Edward Terry, who is in his mid-50s, was also ordered to do 100 hours of community service and pay 95 pound as costs, The Sun reports.
The court heard a reporter befriended Edward Terry at a wine bar near his home over a six-week period.
Prosecutor Paul Scothern said: “Employees of a national newspaper decided to mount what was in effect a sting operation against Terry to ascertain whether he could or would supply class-A drugs.”
The reporter told Edward Terry that he wanted some cocaine to entertain two men, who he would take to a lap-dancing venue.
He asked Terry if knew where he could source the drug, the court heard.
The reporter said he wanted three grams of cocaine. Edward Terry assured him of the quality of the product and a fee of 120 pounds was agreed. (ANI)
