New Delhi, Oct 10 (IANS) Former champion Vijay Kanan made a first round exit from the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship when he lost 4-6, 3-6 to Hyderabad’s Saketh Myneni at the DLTA complex here Monday.

Tamil Nadu’s Kanan, who was a 2002 champion, looked rusty against 23-year-old Myneni, who had returned after completing his education at the University of Alabama, US.

Mayneni, who also played at National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), is fresh from his last month’s win at AITA tennis tournament in Bangalore, where he defeated Vijay Sundar Prashanth, who is seeded third here, and Mohit Mayur of Tamil Nadu in the semi-finals and the final.

He next plays the winner of the match between fifth seeded P.C. Vignesh and Saurabh Singh.

The two-time women’s national champion Isha Lakhani, who is making a return to the game, qualified for the main draw Monday morning. The fiery player had it easy against Delhi’s Arushi Sharma, winning 6-1, 6-4.

Isha, who is running her own coaching programme, plays wild card Shreya Pasricha in the first round.

In the other men’ singles first-round matches, Lakshit Sood from Uttar Pradesh pulled off a 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-2 win against Karnataka’s Vinod Gowda, while Delhi’s Kunal Anand defeated Tamil Nadu’s Fariz Mohammad 6-1, 6-4.
