Sachin Tendulkar New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar missed out on his 100th international century at the Ferozeshah Kotla here Wednesday but his fine 76 in the second innings put India on the verge of a win against the West Indies at lunch on the fourth day of the first cricket Test.

India, chasing a target of 276, were 254 for four in their second innings at the lunch break, with V.V.S. Laxman batting on 45 and Yuvraj Singh on nine.

Tendulkar was the top scorer with 76 and was trapped leg-before wicket by leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo.

Resuming at overnight 152 for two, India lost the first wicket in the fourth over after pacer Fidel Edwards bowled out Rahul Dravid (31) with a superb delivery. The ball pitched just outside off and lured Dravid into a drive but it came back a long way to uproot two stumps.

Tendulkar and Laxman then scored briskly for their 71-run stand that came up in 100 balls. Tendulkar, resuming at overnight 33, took 24 balls to get his fifty and after that every run he scored was wildly cheered by the Kotla crowd. Laxman was quick off the blocks and hit five fours as he quickly got to 30 in just 44 balls.

Tendulkar also stepped on the accelerator once he got to his 62nd Test fifty. He hit Ravi Rampaul for a four, a tuck off the pad, as India went past the 200-run mark.
