Adelaide, Jan 27 (IANS) India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin admitted that nothing went the team’s way in the Test series against Australia and hoped a for a better performance in the limited overs format starting with the two Twenty20 Internationals.

India are on the brink of their eighth overseas Test defeat and consecutive series whitewash with Australia needing four wickets to win the Adelaide Test. India also had a disastrous tour of England last year.

Ashwin chose to look ahead after the end of day four here and said the team comprising some fresh players will continue to work hard for a better performance in Twenty20s, slated for February 1 and 3, and the ODI tri-series including Sri Lanka that starts February 5.

“It is going to be a fresh start. It is going to be a different ball game. The colour of the ball also changes. So hopefully we can change our luck as well,” Ashwin told reporters in a lighter vein.

Ashwin said the team tried its best and were not embarrassed with the one-sided result.

“We are extremely disappointed but embarrassment would be the wrong word to use. It is not that we have cheated anyone. We have not seized the initiatives and we did not have enough reserves in the bank to do it,” said Ashwin.

The spinner could manage nine wickets in three Tests at an average of 62.77 but was able to contain the flow of runs from his end. Ashwin was satisfied with the performance and said he learnt a lot while bowling to the Australian batsmen.

“The senior batsmen in the Australian team used their feet really well against me. And I tried to adjust my style for the prevailing conditions. With the Kookaburra ball, they just go through with their shots even if you deceive them in the flight. So these are the learnings that I will be taking back. How to bowl when the batsmen are stepping out on a flat wicket. But as as whole, the ball has come well out of my hand and I have enjoyed the challenge,” he said.
