Newport Beach, Calif., Dec.14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Jerry Hughes, the Texas Christian University defensive end, is the winner of the prestigious Lott trophy. The much coveted honor was bestowed upon the player on Sunday at a ceremony that was held at the Pacific Club. The Lott trophy is given out every year to give recognition to the best defensive player on the basis of the performance displayed on the field as well as the personal character of the player. The honor was all the more special for the young player as this was his second award in the past week. Earlier on Tuesday, the promising player had received the title of Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year.

In order to win the much acclaimed award, the 21 year old player had to beat Rolando McClain of Alabama, Eric Berry of Tennessee and Ndamukong Suh of Nebraska. While reacting to the recent awards that he has received, the young player added it was a real honor for him to even be nominated in all these prestigious awards and at the same time emphasized that he was just having some fun with it. Meanwhile, Jerry Hughes, who is supposed to graduate in the month of May next year also stressed on the importance of time management, which enables him to keep track of academics as well as sports.

Jerry Hughes was also nominated for a number of other awards this year which included the Lombardi Award as well as the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. Moreover, due to the amazing performances that he has displayed for some time now, the young player is considered to be one of the high ranking picks of 2010 NFL Draft.
