Taylor feels batting camp will be of little help
December 21st, 2011 - 9:19 pm ICT by IANSSydney, Dec 21 (IANS) Former Test skipper Mark taylor feels the specially designed batting camp at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will be of little help for the struggling Australian top-order batsmen to counter the swing bowlers of India.
Taylor doubts that batsmen who have failed against swing bowling can turn it all around in five days before facing India’s swing bowlers.
“I don’t think you learn much more from practice at this stage. It’s a bit like night before an exam if you don’t know what you are doing at this stage you are in a bit of trouble,” said Taylor, a former Test opener.
Shaun Marsh, Ricky Ponting, Brad Haddin, Michael Hussey and skipper Michael Clarke batted in the Melborune Cricket Ground (MCG) indoor nets and were closely monitored by batting coach Justin Langer and head coach Mickey Arthur. There were a few different angled bowling machines to simulate India pair Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan.
Taylor, while speaking to Fox Sports said the break, however, will help the batsmen to get back their focus.
“I think the guys getting together a week out from a Test isn’t a bad thing, particularly the guys at the top of the order who have been struggling. Anything you pick up is a good thing,” said Taylor.
