Srinagar, May 28 (IANS) Tamil Nadu defeated Chandigarh 2-0 while Jharkhand beat Uttar Pradesh 3-2 in the 62nd edition of the Santosh Trophy Wednesday. Tamil Nadu scored early in the first half to lead 1-0. In the 68th minute C.S. Sabeeth struck again to give his team a two-goal lead. Two Chandigarh players were shown yellow cards during the match at the Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu.
At Polo grounds in Srinagar, Jharkhand beat Uttar Pradesh by 3-2 in a close finish game.
Jharkhand’s Debaratir scored in the fourth minute followed by an equalizer by J.P. Yadav of Uttar Pradesh in the 16th minute.
At half time both teams were level. It was M. Asaful, who scored the second goal and the decider in the second half for Jharkhand after Hadi Hassan of Uttar Pradesh scored second goal for his team in the 36th minute.
At the Kashmir University grounds only one match could be played between Railways and Mizoram, which ended in a draw as both teams scored once each in the second half. It was Mizoram team’s second and Railway’s first group cluster match.
For Railways, Panraj Sura scored by a header in the 10th minute of second half, equalized by Mizoram’s Lal Saila in the 20th minute of the half.
In the fourth match of the fourth day of the tournament played at the GGM Science College ground in Jammu, Sikkim beat Bihar 5-1 in a Group-I cluster match and at the Polo ground Srinagar a match between Madhya Pradesh and Assam ended in a goal-less draw.
