Takhar ends Olympic campaign in 21st position

Beijing, Aug 15 (IANS) Indian rower Bajranglal Takhar upgraded his personal best timing to finish 21st in the men’s singles sculls rowing event at the Olympics here Friday. The Indian led the race till the 1500m mark but slipped two places in the last 500 metres to traverse the distance in 7:09.73 after the 19-24 position contest. Uruguay’s Leandro Salvagno topped the race to finish overall 19th with a timing of 7:04.

The Indian rower came up with his personal best of 7:41.73 at the Munich world championships last year.

Devender Kumar Khandwal and Manjeet Singh finished third in their classification race to take the overall 19th place in the lightweight double sculls. Khandwal and Manjeet clocked 6:40.34.
