Taiwan kicked out of Little League World series
August 23rd, 2011 - 7:35 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattTaipei, Aug 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Taiwan has suffered an embarrassing first round exit from the Little League World Series. The Taiwanese team was kicked out of the tournament after they suffered a shock 3-5 loss to the Canadian team. This is the first time since 1994 that Taiwan has failed to go beyond the first round of the tournament.
Taiwan lost their first game against Mexico. The Mexican team won the game 3-0 and the defeat was blamed on defensive lapses on the part of the Taiwanese team. The team seemed to have recovered from the early setback when they rallied in the second game to beat Aruba 20-3.
The team needed to win their last game against Canada to guarantee their progress to the next stage of the competition. At the end of the game, the Canadian team proved too strong for the Taiwanese team.
The win marked the first time that any Canadian team has beaten a Taiwanese team in 17 matches. Taiwan is one of the power houses of the game in the world having won the tournament in 1995 and 1995.
Between 1997 and 2002, the Taiwanese team refused to participate in the game because of differences with the world body of the Little League World Series.
