Tait should use T20, ODI series selection to re-launch his career: BlewettJanuary 8th, 2009 - 1:33 pm ICT by ANI
Melbourne, Jan 8 (ANI): Former Australian cricketer Greg Blewett wants fiery bowler Shaun Tait to use this summers limited-overs cricket season to re-launch his international career.
Tait, who has struggled with injury and motivation since spearheading Australias 2007 Cricket World Cup triumph, was selected in the national squads for the coming Twenty20 and one-day international series.
Blewett, a former South Australia teammate of Tait, said the return to the green and gold could catapult the speedster onto Australias tour to South Africa, FOX Sports reported.
Its great to see. He bowled in the KFC Big Bash on Tuesday night and bowled well. I dont think his pace was up there but he took wickets and looked strong. I think returning to the national set up will kickstart his summer. Its good for him to be around the group, said Blewett, a 46-Test veteran.
Blewett said Tait has played three Tests and 10 ODIs for Australia and could be in the mix to replace the likes of injured quick Brett Lee, provided his at-times fragile body stands up.
He has always really enjoyed playing the game but at times, like most cricketers, he hasnt enjoyed playing in pain, Blewett said.
We see recently with Brett Lee that if your body isnt 100 per cent then it can really affect a fast bowler. If Shaun is up and bowling well then he can be a real asset for Australia, he added.
The dumping of Test opener Matthew Hayden, however, has overshadowed Taits inclusion.
The battling enforcer was left out of both squads, but Blewett believes the break could be the tonic for Hayden to rejuvenate his flagging career. (ANI)
