Tait should be definite starter in Ashes squad: Ex-pacer Hogg
August 19th, 2010 - 2:04 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Aug.19 (ANI): Former Australian fast bowler Rodney Malcolm Hogg has insisted that out-of-favour Test quick Shaun Tait should be a definite starter for Australia in the forthcoming Ashes series against England Down Under.
“Tait is the X-factor lacking in an Australia attack that has a sameness about it and which will struggle to bowl out England twice. When I spoke to Tait recently, he declared his body had responded well after he played the last two one-day matches for Australia against England in June-July,” Hogg told Fox Sports.
Tait played the last of his three Tests three years ago, but is a different player today. His body and mind are in far better shape than when he played against India at the WACA in 2007-2008, Hogg added.
“Like many in sport, Tait needs guidance and confidence shown in him. Don’t expect him to bowl 200 overs in a series like Dennis Lillee or Glenn McGrath used to. Use him in four-over bursts, with no more than 14-16 overs a day,” Hogg said.
He said that it would give Australian captain Ricky Ponting the ability to use Tait as a shock weapon.
Hogg played 38 Tests for Australia from 1978-1984 and took 123 wickets at 28.47. (ANI)
