Symonds,Watson and Lee back in squad for UAE series against PakistanApril 8th, 2009 - 12:39 pm ICT by ANI
London, Apr.8 (ANI): Cricket Australia (CA) has recalled Andrew Symonds, Brett Lee and Shane Watson for the six match One Day International series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Announcing the 14 man squad for the series starting April 22, the chairman of selectors, Andrew Hilditch, said: “Andrew Symonds has been cleared by Cricket Australia to resume playing for the Australian cricket team and he has been included in the squad.”
Symonds poor form along with a niggling knee injury, and several off-field controversial incidents forced him to sit out through the last summer.
Hilditch hoped that Symonds would grab the opportunity, and prove that he still possesses those match winning qualities.
“At his best, Andrew is a dynamic one-day player with an outstanding record for Australia. It will now be up to him to seize this opportunity,” he said.
Besides recalling some of the big guns, the Cricket Australia has decided to rest some players.
Captain Ricky Ponting, Mike Hussey, and Mitchell Johnson have not been included in the squad.
Michael Clarke will captain the squad and Brad Haddin would be his deputy, Fox Sports reported.
Hilditch said the trio were being rested because of the immense workload they would have to take up during the four-month tour of England later in the year. (ANI)
